To Drill or Not to Drill:
Economic Boom or Environmental Bust?
Find out more information on our Conservation Page.
Hydraulic Fracturing is the suspected cause of impaired or polluted drinking water in western Pennsylvania, Colorado, Alabama, Arkansas, New Mexico, Kansas, Montana, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming. If allowed in the Catskill/Delaware watershed area, it is only a matter of time before our water is affected as well. Once the watershed becomes polluted, New York taxpayers will have to cough up $10-20 Billion for a filtration plant to treat the water. And you can bet that will leave a bad taste in our mouths.
Atlantic Chapter Sierrans take Climate Action
On October 24, at over 5000 climate action events in 181 countries around the world, people stood together as one planet and called for a fair global climate treaty. We were united by a common call to action: the world needs the climate solutions that science and justice demand.
Here in New York, Sierra Club members organized or participated in events in every corner of the state - events like the 350 event cosponsored by the Niagara Group with WNY Climate Action Coalition and other organizations, shown above. Event locations included Riverhead (Long Island), Mamaroneck (Lower Hudson), Corning (Finger Lakes), and New York City. A more complete list of events and Sierra contacts can be found here.
Over 18,000 pictures can be found on Flickr- take a look and feel the hope.
