Golden Lion Flight

Oh golden lion tamarin with your

luscious mane and swirly tail

perfect for trees!  Oh goldy, I

have never met you, never even

seen you with eyes of reality.

Yet you stir my

imagination.  Swinging, (you

probably really can, better than a swingset!) climbing,

all with a graceful

glee.

Hop!  Fly!  I would touch your

tail (not pull, friend, don’t worry)

and we would climb-fly through the

canopy!  Ballet dancers with freedom instead of

leotards.  I would like that,

golden lion tamarin, to

look into your eyes and see the rainforest reflected, and for

you to help me fly.  Then

surely we must help you live.  You with your

luscious mane and swirly tail!  Oh!

Snow Leopard

Little leopard come and play

You live in mountains so far away

You are mighty good climbers and swimmers too

But hunters will catch you.

You lost your food and home

Now you have no place to roam

With your creamy white fur—

Run fast as you can

Hide in the slopes away from man.

Tyler Cunnington, Poetry 5-9, Yorktown, Age 9

Bald Eagle

A bald eagle up high in the wide teal sky.

It’s like a shadow across the sky.

A shriek like the firecrackle of a firecracker.

Gliding as if it was a kite flown on a summer day.

Standing out for our country!

Allison Lin, Poetry Age 10-13, Staten Island, Age 12

Grizzly Bear

Grizzly bear, large and dangerous,

I feel bad for you.

Farmers and ranchers try to kill you,

Loggers cut down your homes

So you won’t have a place to rest.

Grizzly bear, frustrated and sad,

Cheer up—you will find a home some day.

Although people are against you,

Please try to find a safe place to hide,

And you will be all right.
